W.C. Clarke (William Christopher to his mother, Bill to
most, and Uncle Willie to a few select friends) has been
roasting, brewing and selling his own special coffees to
the State College, PA natives for over 10 years.
Now, finally, after much cajoling and well-meaning flattery,
he has agreed to let
the rest of the world in on a little known
Central PA secret.
If you were lucky enough to live in State College (home
to Penn State and the Nittany
Lions), you could experience
the joy of getting to work
early (really early) and inhaling the
wonderful aromas emanating from Bill's roaster, wafting
Alley between 6 and 8 am. You can always
tell when it's a roasting day. The heady aroma of Bill's
organic find (organic Peruvian, Zambian, Yemen,
a few) wanders down the alley and draws you in.
No need to ask for a cup. Pour your own, throw your change
on the counter. Only have
a 20? Make your own change.
Bill's too busy watching his roasting timer and talking with the
